Ford’s company started as one of hundreds of automobile companies developing in twentieth century Detroit. The company was transformed when it began producing the Model T in 1908. It became so popular that Ford announced the T would be the only car produced. When production ceased in 1927, 15 million T’s were produced, newspapers wrote obituaries for the car, and some consumers bought several. The T made Ford a billionaire living on a 2000 acre estate and his company became the industry's biggest.[32] Ford also indulged in luxuries like expensive yachts and his own golf club.
